The Yemeni authorities revealed Tuesday, that More than 1,500 families have been displaced during the last two weeks due to the escalation of the Houthi militia and its continuous bombardment of residential areas, amid the escalation of fighting in the eastern governorate of Marib.
The Executive Unit for the Management of Displaced Persons Camps in Yemen said in a report released today that it documented the displacement of 1,517 Yemeni families, consisting of 12 thousand and 5 people, during the period between 6 to 21 February.
According to the unit’s report, 90.18 percent of those families were displaced from the Sarwah district, while 4.68 percent were displaced from the Bani Dabyan district, and 5.14 percent from the Ragwan district.
The displaced families were distributed over several districts, where 812 families moved to locations relatively far from the confrontations in the Serwah district itself, 237 families to the city of Marib, the governorate center, and 201 families to the Wadi Directorate, and the rest of the families were distributed in the districts of Jouba, Raghwan, and other areas.
It is noteworthy that the fighting fronts in the Marib governorate have been witnessing for more than two weeks, violent battles between the Yemeni army and the Iranian-backed Houthi militia, which are seeking to advance towards the center of the oil-rich province and the main stronghold of government forces.
Local sources said that the Houthi militia bombed a camp for the displaced in the Dhanna area, inhabited by more than 700 displaced families, with a number of artillery shells, and launched a bombardment with ballistic missiles and Katyusha on Al-Zour camp in Sarwah district, which includes more than 20 thousand displaced people from various Yemeni governorates.
