Washington informed IAEA on Thursday that Iran had gotten an opportunity to address the UN agency’s concerns about “uranium particles.”
It indicated that it “will monitor the situation closely.”
“Iran has now got another opportunity from the Director General (of the IAEA) to demonstrate the necessary cooperation before the next meeting of the Agency’s Board of Governors,” This is what the U.S. statement confirmed.
“The United States, like all members of the IAEA Board of Governors, will evaluate our views on the Council’s next steps depending to whether Iran will seize the opportunity to end the IAEA concerns finally and reliably,” the statement added.
Rafael Grossi, the IAEA Director General announced that Iran’s acceptance of an initiative to clarify outstanding issues, including uranium enrichment, while Washington saw it as an opportunity for Tehran.
European countries have also withdrawn a draft resolution to condemn Iran at the IAEA.
“The United States shares deep concern about Iran’s developments that the IAEA Secretary-General has spoken of,” this is what the American representative said in front of the Board of Governors
“Iran must fully cooperate with the IAEA without further delay to give the international community the confidence that Tehran says the world should have in the peaceful nature of its nuclear program,” the U.S. official added.
The US statement came shortly after diplomats announced in Brussels that European countries had withdrawn a draft resolution they had submitted over the weekend, blaming Iran for stopping the implementation of the additional protocol regarding its nuclear file.
