Well-informed sources have revealed an Iranian role in the operations that targeted US bases in Iraq. The sources have pointed out that these attacks were carried out at the direct order of Iranian Revolutionary Guards commanders.
These sources have also set forth that last week, a meeting was held between Revolutionary Guards officers and leaders of the militias in the Iraqi capital, Baghdad. It has been noted by the sources that the Iranians called upon the militias to take revenge on the American forces in Iraq because of American raids on camps affiliated to the Iranian-backed militias in both Syria and Iraq.
In the same context, the sources have indicated that the Iranian delegation, which visited Iraq, was led by Hussein al-Tayeb, the head of the Revolutionary Guards intelligence. It has been emphaisized that Iranian security moves in Iraq have escalated, especially after the raids that targeted militia positions on the Syrian-Iraqi border.
In addition, the sources have confirmed that the Revolutionary Guards asked the militias to expand their operations against the American forces inside Syrian territory. Iranian orders were the main driver of those operations.
A few days ago, Iraqi security sources confirmed that a number of Iranian-backed Iraqi militias had evacuated their main positions in several areas in the country. This step came due to a concern about imminent US raids that could target the militias.
The same sources have also indicated that the militias which almost completely evacuated their positions are Asa’ib Ahl al-Haq, Kata’ib Sayyid al-Shuhada, Kata’ib Hezbollah, Badr and Kata’ib al-Imam Ali. The largest evacuation process was in the Iraqi capital, Baghdad.
Furthermore, these sources have set forth that the evacuation process was the first step of its kind which the militias took, especially with the increasing escalation between them and the United States. They point out that the evacuation processes included withdrawing a large number of armed men, heavy equipment and weapons.
