Media reports have revealed the escalation of conflicts between the wings of the Muslim Brotherhood, the Egyptian branch, especially after disputes intensified between Ibrahim Mounir, the acting guide of the MB, and Mahmoud Hussein, the former Secretary-General of the group. They have pointed out that those conflicts had developed during the last period into public defection from the group for some of its leaders.
The reports also have indicated that the group’s acting leader, has become accused by the current supportive of the former leader of bypassing the group after what happened to it in Egypt and Tunisia and trying to control it and its decisions and directing it to serve his interests and his team. They have pointed out that the conflicts aggravated with Hussein’s refusal to recognize Mounir’s recent decisions, in which he decided to dissolve the group’s administrative office and the Shura Council in Turkey.
It is noteworthy that the group’s activity in Turkey has declined during the past few months, after the efforts made by the AKP government to improve relations with Egypt.
In addition, reports confirmed that the postponement of the country’s elections for 6 months also led to a distance between the two currents within the group. Especially since Hussein rejected these decisions and affirmed their illegality and incorrectness, calling on Mounir and his companions to hand over what he called the honesty.
Reports have indicated that a number of MB leaders demanded Hussein to leave the group, accusing him of working to destroy it and trying to monopolize the group, its capabilities and decisions.
In the same context, the leaders have considered that what Hussein is doing has cemented the division, and led to the formation of several groups within the MB, which were named after the state or the capital in which they reside, such as the Istanbul group, the London group, and the Cairo group, according to the reports.
