The Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK) denied executing 13 Turks who were detained in a cave in northern Iraq, holding the Turkish army responsible for killing them all during the Turkish military operation launched against the party’s sites in the Kurdistan region.
In a statement released on Wednesday Feb 17, the party indicated that the hostages were killed as a result of the Turkish army’s bombing. It noted that the story of one of the captured Turkish soldiers testifies to the Turkish bombing of the site.
It is noteworthy that the Turkish government accused the party, which is listed on the terrorist lists in Turkey, of carrying out a mass execution of the captured soldiers. Turkey said that the party’s fighters executed the hostages after launching the Turkish military operation against their sites.
In the same context, the PKK’s statement clarified that the captured soldiers were in a cave north of the city of Dohuk in the Kurdistan region of Iraq, when the Turkish army targeted the cave, which led to its complete destruction.
Kemal Kilicdar Oglu, the leader of the Turkish opposition, launched a strong attack on President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, against the backdrop of killing 13 Turkish citizens who were detained by the Kurdistan Workers’ Party.
Kilicdar Oglu asked Erdogna why he did not seek the help of the detained party’s leader Abdullah Ocalan, to release the kidnapped citizens, as he asked him for help during his election campaign in 2015.
“What have you done as president of the republic since 2015 to save the sons of the state who were kept by the separatist terrorist organization for five and a half years?” he asked.
