Iran’s Intelligence Minister Mahmoud Alawi has revealed that there was a betrayal within Iran’s Revolutionary Guard regarding the case of the assassination of the nuclear scientist Fakhri Zadeh, who was killed late last year in the capital Tehran.
Alawi stated that the mastermind of the assassination operation is a member in the Revolutionary Guard, working in the Iranian missile and nuclear field. He pointed out that he fled the country shortly before the assassination was carried out.
In the same context, Alawi showed that the suspect played a major role in the operation by providing logistical support to the main perpetrators. Alawi indicated that the member had been dismissed from the armed forces, and that the Ministry of Intelligence had distributed documents talks about assassinations of leaders in the Iranian regime.
In addition, Alawi confirmed that the ministry revealed the “enemies” plans to assassinate Zadeh in the same place where the operation was carried out on a highway. “The Ministry asked the armed forces to appoint a representative to prevent an operation against Fakhri Zadeh, but the operation took place before the representative arrived,” he added.
The British newspaper, The Jewish Chronicle, revealed that the Iranian nuclear scientist Fakhri Mohsen Zadeh, who was assassinated last November near Tehran, was killed by a weapon weighing one ton, which was smuggled into Iran by the Israeli intelligence service, the Mossad, after dismantling it into several parts.
The British-based newspaper quoted intelligence sources, that a group of more than 20 agents, including Israelis and Iranians, ambushed the scientist after watching him for eight months.
According to the newspaper, the assassination of the 59-year-old Zadeh was carried out by Israel alone without any U.S. help or intervention, however, U.S. officials received from the Israeli side information and updates in advance about the assassination.
