Ahmad Awad bin Mubarak, Yemen’s Foreign Minister, has revealed conditions that Iran had set on the Houthis before allowing them to get into negotiations with the legitimate government. He noted that Tehran had issued strict orders to the militia not to turn to a solution or negotiation before ending the operation of controlling the oil city of Marib.
Last February, the Houthi militia launched a large-scale military campaign with the aim of controlling Marib without achieving its goals, the passage of nearly 8 months since the launch of this campaign.
In the same context, Bin Mubarak has accused the Houthis of taking intransigent positions regarding the peace initiatives proposed to resolve the Yemeni crisis. The Minister considers that the Houthi escalation in Shabwa, Abyan, Al Dhale’ and Marib has come despite all efforts, calls to bring peace and works to reach a ceasefire in Yemen, according to the what was reported by Al Arabiya TV.
“Marib is farther from the sun’s eye, the Houthis have violated human rights at various levels and misused the United Nations in absurd negotiations,” Bin Mubarak added in a message to the Houthi militia, calling on the new UN envoy to review the crisis in detail and deal with it realistically.
The Yemeni minister has also stressed the need to seek the full implementation of the Riyadh Agreement, which would confront the Houthis and their attacks. He underlines the need for the new UN envoy not to start again from scratch.
Bin Mubarak has called on the international community to look at the crisis humanitarianly, politically, economically and militarily, especially in light of the Houthis ’disrupting the relief organizations’ work. “80 percent of the Yemeni people are in dire need of direct assistance and relief work,” he underlines the necessity of international aid.
